My selection for Mother’s Day. Out of a magnum that I had in my cellar for a little while. Opened about half an hour before lunch at a Portuguese restaurant. The wine was a bit acidic at first but now 2 hours later is singing the national anthem!
Long finish and it shows no age at all, looks like a 7-10 years old wine.

Tasted/reviewed blind. A big, serious, mature wine. Lovely aromas of rose, tapenade, and smoky BBQ. Pronounced pyrazines (menthol/eucalyptus) greatly narrows what this could be (cabernet family for sure). I think this is Bordeaux. I’m going to guess right bank Bordeaux because the structure is plush and a little flabby, and the pyrazines are cab franc-like. Flabby, I must acknowledge, but this is glorious wine. It tastes about peak, but it should age well for at least 10 years. Rating: 95.

Bad cork - even a Durand couldn’t save it, so I had some crumbles to taste through, but the underlying structure was lovely, as was the balanced fruit.

Drank over several hours. Dark fruit, cassis, cedar and tobacco with a fair amount of sediment .

drank 30 minutes after decanting. Lots of wood, plenty of sweet cassis, smoky, cedar. Very fragrant and floral.
