Found this at a wine store in the Berkshires. Suspicious of why a 2012 was still there. But having traded in a trip to Croatia (Grgich’s homeland) for Massachusetts (long story) it seemed meant to be so what the heck.
Fantastic. Drinking beautifully, not a bit over. Nose of red and black fruits, roses, a little briar, cigar box, a little Bordeaux style cassis. Amazingly long and complex palette. Tannins all folded in, none of the too-pushy zin fruit bombs, white pepper is right, just rolls around your tongue until a very slightly dusty finish. Loved it with grilled veal chops, smashed Yukon golds and a local-ish Vermont cow/sheep blend for “desert”. Opened 15 minutes before drinking, would give it 30 minutes tomorrow, but not better 2 hours later.

Gobs of rich jammy fruit, chocolate, pepper, spice, minerals, savory, some pretty florals - perfectly balanced and harmonious, and chewy but restrained tannins to balance the long finish - a lovely zin that's not over the top and immensely enjoyable. It may be in its sweet spot right now. A good pop and pour, but really rocking on Day 2.

Very delicious Zinfandel. Medium bodied. Still possessing good acidity. Fine and subtle tannins. Excellent drinking now.
