At first I thought there might have been a fault with the seal. For a relatively young wine, there was noticeable bricking around the edges and there were tertiary allspice notes that hinted towards oxidation. The tannin and fruit was also fully integrated, in the way that gives the mouthfeel a sort of velvety edge. A characteristic I would usually associate with a much older wine or a liqueur.
I persevered though and when it settled it was a reasonably enjoyable medium bodied wine. There was a really prominent note of violet and roses on the nose and cassis flavours in addition to the raisins.
Might open another in a week as a comparison.

Made the mistake of having this after a few bottles of rather good Burgundy which didn't allow it to shine in the light that it should have been. Anyway, a bit of blackcurrant, herbaceous notes, fleshy, fresh. Perfectly pleasant but...ho hum in the company...

Steak off! (My place, Kent Street): Double decanted. Cream, Red over blackcurrant, a herbaceous underpin, cedar & plum in a supporting role with some sweet spice. The palate is very much a reflection of the nose, structurally there is a fair amount of drying, slightly chalky tannin here as well, the herbaceous note is not so obvious though there is a touch of salinity. Hmm.

A year since my last one of these - drinking nicely, balanced, smooth. A great MR cab blend
