  Clear garnet, orange around the rim. Amazing nose of lush black cherry, wild strawberries, rose water, lavender and violet. The palate fails a to deliver on this wonderful promise, with red cherry, cranberry and strawberry. Age catches up here though and the fruit fades quickly leaving a bitter tannic finish. This was nice (especially the nose) but time has got the better of this 2nd tier Grand Cru, which doesn't taste much like a 20 year old Grand Cru at all. The film has aged better!

  Wine Wednesday at Weygandt (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Nose of cherries, sweet cranberries, roses, red apple, some underlying bay leaf. Nice and tart on the palate but firm tannins, still very young. Red currant mixes with flowers, dust, earth and bay leaf. Subtle wood, notes of pepper and bay leaf, red flowers. Day 2 started to show more earth and mushroom notes. Overall, a very enjoyable wine, but I’d hold off for another five years at least, because this has so much more to show.

  Bright ruby red, translucent, vibrant, sexy. With no rimming. Refined, elegant and chic without falling into ostentation. Round and smooth but with the sensual grip of manicured nails on your back. Earthy and mineral with beautiful notes of moist soil. Superb balance, clarity and symmetry. Approaching maturity but with a long life ahead. This was a great choice for Valentine's dinner. Almost as pretty as my date.
