Pronounced aromas of rose, redcurrant, black cherry, cinnamon, cloves, and forest floor. Medium fine-grained and smooth tannins. This had the energy and stuffing on the palate to go decades, but it was very fragrant and drinking amazingly well now, which doesn’t make you regret the infanticide too much.

Un grand 1er cru, un grand vin, rien de moins. Beaucoup de complexité et de beaux arômes de cerise à l’ouverture (PNP). Très long.

The Superb Barthod and Boillot Wines: Ghislaine noted that her Les Cras soil is poorer than that of her Les Fuées vineyard. The vineyard is on the slope next to Bonnes Mares. More tension evident on the nose. Fresher, energetic, packed with dark fruit. In the mouth, there is much more structure and power here. The Fuées is very driven but quite austere. More dark fruited than the Charmes. "Sappy matière", said Ghislaine, "... with time this will soften and round out". A definite step up over the Charmes. An excellent wine. I'd give it at least seven years cellar time.

BBR 2014 en primeur. Red fruit forward nose. In the mouth ,again very high acidity and lean without too much fruit showing at this stage. Inaccessible and very hard to pin down. One for the long haul.
