Nose slowly gains complexity over a couple of days. Exhibits citrus, freshly removed apple peal, lychee, bees wax and subtle wood influence. On the palate it does not quite deliver on its promise. The nose is great but the palate lacks a little acidity leaving the wine slightly unfocused and a little heavy for a Chablis. There is great complexity and depth of flavours that reflect the pedigree of this wine. Fairly long aftertaste with a hint of hydrogen peroxide. Don't think it was oxidized as there was plenty of fresh fruit still and no overripe aromatics or discolouration but the aftertaste was more peculiar than enjoyable. Very good but not great.

Mid straw yellow; flinty nose, grass, hay; stringent, fierce, going into sweet well held up by acidity; good balance but rather thin and lacking complexity; nice taste but next to no aftertaste; ok but not grand in any way

$36.99 retail, before discount. Tasted side by side with Bessin's '05 OC Chablis V.V. (see TN). The village wine was, predictably, lighter and cleaner, with less power and complexity. The '04 Valmur offers a focused, medium intensity nose of herbs, minerals and citrus. There's an underlying earthy / waxy element as well. On the palate, notes of beeswax, light menthol / anise, lemon, minerals and light herbs. Assertive acid structure. As it warmed, a nutty, light popped corn element emerged. Terroir driven. Very nice, and very well priced, IMO. I would assume this would reward cellaring.
