  • My last bottle from a massive Cosentino purchase in 2012 when the entire winery cellar was sold at huge discounts by the new owners. I paid $8 for this and the other bottles 7 of us split. The entire purchase amounted to over 35 cases. My last bottle 2 months ago at a tasting I did, was probably the worst bottle of this I have had. This bottle was surprisingly glorious. On first decanting, the wine was lightly bricked abd a little dust/musty on the nose. There were notes of herbal and even slightly vegetal elements. In as little as 2 hours the wine transformed with a translucent bright garnet color that showed almost no bricking. The nose is much brighter with red florals, some earth tones red cherry and pomegranate fruit and a surprising freshness. Palate became very energetic and vibrant. It had a light and smooth texture. Mostly red fruited and overall reflecting the nose. Quite long herbal finish. Really a pleasure to drink. Quite good with a grilled Berkshire Pork Cheek we tested for a big event tomorrow.

  • Mostly Older Cabernet Franc Tasting (New Jersey, USA): One of 8 Cab Franc’s tasted at my “Mostly Older Cab Franc Tasting”… Double decanted at 2:15pm and tasted from 4-8pm. Dark garnet with some bricking. The has both herbal and green pepper notes along with chocolate, cherry. Tasted more youthful than it looked but was lacking in fruit in terms of balance. Earthy and scorched earth notes on the finish. At different times this was a little disjointed and was showing its age.

  • decanted and served pretty much immediately, right away there was great bouquet and richness. There was plenty of earthy leather, chocolate, dark fruits and a touch of eucalyptus in the mix. It seemed best in the first 30 minutes as it closed down after that and we finished the bottle shortly thereafter, so I'm not sure if it would have improved with more air, which I suspect. All together enjoyable nonetheless!

  • Drank a friends bottle with our wives, excellent, mature car franc. It almost tasted like a Barolo. You got truffle and black cherry on the nose and palate, along with lots of floral notes especially on the nose. On the nose you also got some oak/vanilla and a little smokey meat. This was decanted at about 4pm and drunk over the next 7 hours and was probably at its best at about the 4-5 hour mark. You also get lots of dark berry on the palate and in the aftertaste. Lovely.

  • Despite some ullage to upper shoulder and a cork that broke on the way out, this wine was surprisingly fresh and yet mature. Color shows little to no bricking with a deep ruby color. Opened around 3 pm and drunk over the next 7 hours, this showed nicely throughout and was best as the last drops were going down. Round and lush yet reticent nose at first but over time you got vanilla, then chocolate and black fruit and a tea note at the finish.
