I was afraid this would be disappointing due to the 16% alcohol content. But luckily I was mistaken, this is a well balanced and structured wine, there's plenty of acidity to counter the alcohol. This wine has a strong body, but not too heavy, almost elegant - again considering the 16%. Tannins are already quite refined and provide a nice egde. This wine demands your attention and rewards you for it. Glad I bought this and two more bottles which I'll age at least 5 and 10 years, or longer.

Drunk over two days. Immense, sweet and powerful nose of black fruit liqueur, iodine, overripe damsons, red earth, and plenty of sweet spice. Not over-extracted, but balanced on the palate, with some alcohol warmth mitigated by a polished fruit profile, and an earthy, spicy note that does a great deal to keep the sweetness in check. Good persistence - with a deep, brooding, blackberry-syrup driven finale. A fine, gourmand wine that shows how much more balanced Italian Primitivo can be relative to Californian Zinfandel. This is never flabby, but surprisingly lights on its feet, easy drinking, and a good accompaniment to full bodied food.
Should age well, as all of Fino's wines to date.
