Eight years in, this Fumin is still quite youthful if muted in its aromatic expression. Ruby with still some purple highlights in colour. Nose is initially very closed than opens up a bit to reveal some floral notes (geranium), white pepper, cherry and blueberry and after a good hour in a decanter, hints of mint and tobacco. On the palate it is quite balanced, slightly veering towards freshness. The notes on the palate are of fruit yet slightly greener tan on the palate. Decent wine though probably better 2-3 years back.

Still has a little youthful faintly bitter rawness, so I'd be looking at leaving in the cellar until c. 6-8 years old before trying again. The charm appears to be there, but needs a little more time to emerge.

old style 100% fumin, still youthful, powerful, with enough acidity to assure a long life ahead. Blueberries and blackberries with hints of smoke. Best in three years or so but already expressing the very interesting essence of this peculiar grape from Valle d'Aosta
