DG 07/2015 We were truly astounded by this wine; it gave a spectacular show, and was everything we look for in a mature champagne. Right from the start: heavily spiced with black pepper, a lot of sea salt, gingerbread and spiced Christmas cookies, cinnamon, sarsaparilla, and Madagascan vanilla; so aromatically profound, it didn’t need air to express itself in a dramatic way with smoke, oxidative notes and Sherry-like grilled meat; a deep perfume-like side with violet and lavender, rosewater, candied cherries, wild raspberries and blackberries, and a toasty foundation of toasted bread, white chocolate, and pecans. Powerful, voluminous on the palate, and extremely aromatic; the acidity from this vintage is remarkable, still very high with the hope of lasting a lifetime; such a sensation of creaminess with the tiniest bubbles, the finish is long-lasting and leaves you savoring the wine forever. Even with our high expectations, we were impressed by this; it’s a sensational wine that gives endless pleasure. Further ageing? The acidity would allow it, but it’s so delightful that I wouldn’t wait. 94pt

As always, the Ancienne (2008 vintage) is the most subtle, elegant and nuanced cuvee of their range. Sublime. Bottle in 2009 and disgorged Sept 2015.
