  • Cork withdrawn intact. Dark purple cork. Initiailly had a fair amount of green-ness to it. When you're 482 miles from home in the middle of ranch country, what do you do? You go out and feed the cows, harvest 8" long okra and foot-long squash and come back to it in 45 minutes or so. And that's exactly what we did. This one was MUCH IMPROVED after that. Brambly dark purple fruit core is here. Thought this would have been a tux and bowtie Malbec but it was definitely more of a t-shirt and blue jeans Malbec. Dark purple fruit core, slightly sweet front and a black olive note to it, nose and palate really aligning quite well. A little bit of vanilla and a little bit of tobacco here. Purple fruit backbone went to a peppered finish where there is still quite a bit of acidity. It actually still had quite a bit of stiff(er) oak tannin as well. Overall, I'm impressed by this wine, and it definitely isn't showing any signs of age at this point although it did throw quite a bit of sediment around the shoulder towards the end. This is a hearty, brambly purple fruited Malbec that is still going to be around in 5-7 years, although I am really not too sure that this will appreciate more in the bottle.

  • Took about an hour to open up and let the dark fruit shine. Great umami, great bouquet. Really nice.

  • This may be my first US Malbec and I like it better than any Cahors or South American I’ve had. Super pairing with our home made Texas Chili. Big enough to stand up to it.

  • Boozy wine, could use some time, right now over oaked and a lot of heat. But cedar notes and tart berries are nice, so could evolve into something better with time.
