  My impression echoes Christoffer78. He nailed all the descriptors. And I'm having this bottle 5 years after that review, so nothing's changed.
  One of the best pinot noirs I've had this year, and quite honestly, one of the best pinots I've ever had from the Santa Barbara region. It's different from Sea Smoke, but strangely also different from other Melville and Brewer-Clifton's I've had. Less of the density and jamminess that Melvile sometimes has, and the fruit does not come off as candied or overripe. Exceptionally well composed. If I were to taste this blind, I wouldn't necessarily assume Cali pinot. There are nuances I typically find in a fine Premier Cru Burgundy.

  Double decanted for 30 min, med. ruby, strawberry & raspberry, med. tannins, mod. finish; delicious, drink or hold

  Bright garnet in color, this wine reveals focused aromas of plum, black cherry and spicecake on the nose. The mouth feel is medium bodied with more dark fruits and anise elements. The finish brings the dark fruits, spices and vivid acidity together seemlessly, leaving this taster wanting more.
  
  Retailing for $90US, this was tasted at the Wine Spectator Grand Tour in Miami on 5/12/12017.

  Wow, wow and then another wow... The 2014 Machado Pinot Noir is one of those flirtatious deep profound interpretation of this varietal. The nos exhibits rainy deciduous forest, wet earth, orange zest, blood grape, profound fruit with strawberry and raspberry, wet saddle leather and a totally brilliant texture. This nose is to die for. The palate is perfectly balanced with a rather forward acidity, but who expect something else from this infant? Everything is in place, as is a solid structure. This wine will certainly continue to develop and it probably needs to rest for a decade to show its even more complex sides. Overall impression is just "wow". Go out and find a bottle, or two. Put them in the cellar and then wait. This is magical!
  
  Tasted in a flight with 2014 Brewer-Clifton 3-D Chardonnay, Hapgood Chardonnay, 3-D Pinot Noir and Machado Pinot Noir. Same producer and vintage, two varietals, three vineyards.
