  • The Platt Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of our favorite bottlings from Fred. This particular bottle, however, was reminiscent of a bottle of the 2010 vintage that we opened on 8/24/18. The acidity was quite high and created an imbalance that eclipsed the dark red fruit, earth and spice notes on the medium bodied palate. Other TNs seem to indicate that this may just be bottle variation, not the loss of fruit due to age (!?).

  • Another great bottle, consistent with my prior notes, and RiverRat’s last note as well. Like great Volnay, pure and without off notes despite the bricking. Ample acidity and grip supporting the sweet core of multi colored fruits enabled it to work w pizza tonight. At least 5 years of great drinking left. Ripe grapes from cool Sonoma climes in the hands of an artist like Fred have produced a superior Cali pinot, balancing black granite minerality and rich concentrated fruit in a compelling and elegantly acidic frame. Medium body and length, pure deliciousness.

  • Pours brick with a garnet core. Dried flowers, cinnamon with a whiff of strawberry rhubarb. Really pleasing candied cherries and green tea, vibrant and juicy with expansive acidity that delights the entire palate. Very soft integrated tannins and that juiciness that lingers on. Hard to put down, a real joy to drink at this stage.

  • So much for my will power in waiting a year, since last March , to open another bottle. Consistent notes, and perfect w a simple Romertopf clay roasted chicken and root vegetables. No decanting needed, it fully opens in glass after 10 minutes. Graceful and elegant, showing some white minerality in mid palate. 2-5 years left of fine drinking, but don’t wait, in it’s prime now.

  • Consistent notes with my last bottle 4 months ago. A bit more open, and delicious with Algerian spiced lamb shanks. Really Volnay like in its lush, easy drinking, fruit forward and plenty of acidity. On day 2, even softer and more voluptuous. I’ll try to keep my hands off the next bottle for another year to see where it goes.
