Bottle off the wine list over dinner at La Bonne Table. Re-tasted again on day 2 under vacuum seal in Grassl Cru. Says a lot when a Village Burg can stand up to the challenge of performing well rather than showing flaws in the Grassl Cru glass. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity (enhanced to medium+ by Grassl), with aromas of rocky stones minerality, red cherries, dark red berries, loamy earth and a hint of violet with more air. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium- tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of raspberry, red cherries, sweet dark red berry fruits, very slight rustic dark spice, dark brambles, loamy earth with more air. Salty savoury aspects emerging. Medium+ finish. Very good quality Village Burg. Surprising stuff from the 2014 vintage. Has some fruity and loamy earth aspects that are reminiscent of NZ Pinot, then the whole mouth-feel package and complexity and rustic dark spice bring you back to Savigny in Burgundy. Drink now with air, or wait another 1-2 years.

When Burgundy is on, there's nothing like it! Just loved this one. Very light, but penetrating. Red fruit, earthiness and perhaps a touch of leather. Delicate but strong at the same time. Pulled you in with its persistence. This is best with milder flavored food, I'd think (I had it with duck magret.)

Red fruit, quickly moving into an earthy, forest floor core and finishing sharp with a decent ring of acidity and tannin. As with previous vintages: Very slender, slight, easily buried under more powerful food but wonderful if given the right partner.
