Mild acidity, large tannin, medium alcohol, dry. Upfront, still very tight despite the age, aroma was ungiving, but notes of cherry, oak, unripe blackberry, alcohol notable. Initial flavor profile was also restrained, with the tannins being a bit overbearing, but taste of sour cherry, cedar, blackberry. Decanted 1-2 hours and this wine opened up very nicely. The nose exploded, with intense cherry, blackberry, cedar. Tannins mellowed quite a bit, flavor developed into more ripe cherry, blackberry, oak, olive, cured meat, sage. I liked this wine more than anticipated, definitely better than the CT score would suggest, and thought it was a good QPR, though patience is required to let this wine come out of its shell a bit.

For a Gran Reserva with 10 years of age (in bottle? oak & bottle? not sure) I expected a wine turning tawny and displaying mostly tertiary notes. This is still a medium ruby color with unassuming nose of black fruits, sweet tobacco, spice and vanilla. The black fruit concentration on the front end of the palate is, again, surprising given the age, but the mid-palate is abrupt and the finish is much shorter than expected. Given the lack of structure, this is something I wouldn't hold on to for very long.

Faint aroma of licorice and berry. Light in body, color and texture. Sweet berry and a hint of spice. Good... not great. But good.
