  • Dinner at Noz (Sushi Noz NYC): Single blind against 2013 George Noellat Chaumes

Clearly CLB from the first whiff. A bright, playful and incredibly inviting wine that just begs to be enjoyed. It wants to please you. It want you to have a good time.

That said, when the 2014 Clos de Chateau came out I noticed how much more I enjoyed the Clos de Chateau to the Chaumes. In general, I find the fruit of the Chaumes a bit more tart, making it come out, for me, a bit harder to be in balance. Given how young the wine is I assume this is more pronounced and, in time, it will probably integrate better and give way to a stronger platform. Until then I prefer the Clos de Chateau.

  • This was somewhat reduced upon opening, but with some time it blossomed into a gorgeous, generous young Vosne. Impeccably proportioned and perfectly balanced, this shows brambly fruits, fine tannins, and impressive concentration and depth. A bit glossy but so delicious--almost like a sleeker version of young Leroy. Not a lot of depth or complexity at this point--and I suspect this will shut down soon--but very tasty.
