Opened at Caprice for the Four Hands Dinner. This was extremely generously shared blind by a benefactor choosing to remain anonymous - thank you!
All of us at the table had a sniff of this - I was initially way off, for some reason detecting barnyard notes. But my first sip on the palate told me that my nose was playing up, as this was exquisite pinot. However, my friends knew instantly that this was excellent stuff, and the floral emphasis pointed us in the direction of Louis Michel. It also had a lot of structure and was quite dark - could it be La Colombiere?
Turns out it was Chaumes. What a treat! Drinking beautifully as long as you give this a bit of air - good to let it evolve in the glass with patience to capture the full beauty of the nose. Will probably improve with a few years of cellaring but already very approachable now. Wonderful stuff.

best bottle I've had of this yet, really generous red fruit after a few hours. The Chaumes tends to be the most reserved wine out of the lineup but it captures the intricacies of vosne spice really well. Great spot.

Big Burg Energy: Decanted and slow oxed for 2.5 hours. Was not showing anything on PnP, but come dinner time, what a beast. Full of gobsmacking black and red fruit with intense florals and spices. Blew me away. Imagine this in 20 years. A destroyer.

More expressive than the 2015. Not sure it is the better wine but better right now. Amazing fruit and power.

Open and approachable after a 2.5 hour decant. Layers of red berries and dark cherries. Intense sous bois, and spices. What a beautiful bottle.
