  • Plum monster with a strong vanilla nose, overly sweet due to a heavy ripe cherry mid palate, but saved by the nose. Medium longish and pleasant mouth feel and finish.

This must be a Neuro-linguistic programing moment or NLP, I seem to be seeing reviews and deals as well as drinking this CdP!

Thanks to H for the treat at A's pre CNY card game tonight.. cheers lads!

  • Since last tasting note 4/2020 this further improved. Clearly the best wine we drank in the previous days. Vibrant, fresh, great fruit and a very nice, long finish. A very nice wine indeed.

  • This is my first dabble with this wine maker. First impressions are of a highly perfumed nose of dark fruits mixed with undercurrents of coffee and notes of chocolate. In the glass, the color is medium dark ruby. And on the palate there's a lot going on with the dark fruits, a malty mid-palate and a dark chocolate finish. The acidity is fairly light, with berry and chocolate at the fore, from front to end, with quite rounded, silky tannins. Give it a swirl around the cheeks, and firmer tannins emerge. Finish is long and satisfying with again chocolate lingering for 20+ seconds. This is a wine that needs slow savoring and time taken to absorb its complexity. What more could I want except a touch more acidity? This wine is in prime drinking space right now, and it should hold well for 5 or even 8 more years.

  • Whether destiny or just her will to become an owner and winemaker, Isabel Ferrando, with the talent and patience of her husband to make the dream come true, did just that in 2002, purchasing the established winery Domaine Saint Préfert. Her talents have taken the winery to its exalted reputation of making world-class wines from the Rhone Valley of France, especially her wines from Châteauneuf du Pape. That brings us to the wine being reviewed today.

With some Grenache vines more than 70 years old as the main varietal (85%), with 5% each of Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvedre making up the rest, and aged only in concrete, the wine was bursting with ripe and lively flavors. The acidity was there but not overly so, a nice spice note finishes the wine on a medium finish and soft tannins. Most likely in its drinking window, I’m not sure I would wait too much longer to enjoy as you may lose more of that great fruit component, something you need not worry about if imbibing on the Collection Charles Giraud or Auguste Favier wines.

The wine was chosen to compliment my meal for the evening of Rack of Lamb with a Sweet Potatoe Puree and Red Wine Sauce. Also a masterpiece if I do say so myself and along with my compliments to the chef; me!

    Cheers

  • Beautifull light, fruit driven CdP. Round, fresh and nicely in balance. In a great spot for drinking.
