  10 years after Riesling tasting - 2014 (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Glass: Gabriel Universal
  Bottle opened ~10h before the tasting. Clear, pale golden color. Beautiful deep and multi-layered nose! Could smell this forever! On the palate close to greatness and not yet fully developed! Very mineral, precise, complex with beautiful tension and energy. Long!!! 94+

  Fifth bottle from a ten bottle lot purchased at auction in 2021. At nine years of age this is fully mature, with some attractive waxy bottle-age (not TDN), the apple and citrus fruit remains fresh, but the palate is a quite low on energy and the bitters feel a bit tired; the finish has a lovely aspect of wet stone and length is good. This bottle feels more evolved than the previous four - probably bottle difference.

  Third bottle from a ten bottle lot purchased at auction in 2021. Happily drinking my way through my little stash - no need to wait for this any longer, although it won't keel over any time soon. Relatively full yellow colour for a Breuer wine of this relatively young age, light body (11.5% ABV), dry and angular in a pleasant way, apple and citrus, hint of wax, palpable minerality, light finish with good length. Lovely - if you like the style, and I do. An admirable attempt in an impossible vintage.

  A private lunch with friends: I refer to my previous note for a detailed analysis of this wine. I can only commend the clean lines and the clear expression achieved in this fiendishly difficult vintage, the intensity without weight (11.5% ABV), and the zesty energy. It's light and angular but not austere, bright and crisp, with palpable chalky minerality, tart citrus and a hint of seal wax, and very good persistence in the context of the vintage. Completely ready, drink soon.

  First bottle from a ten bottle lot purchased at auction recently. The 2014 vintage on the Rhine was a difficult one. June was hot and dry, July was cooler and wet, and August was downright miserable. Drosophila Suzukii was rampant and rot set in during a warm September, even before it started to rain again in early October. This 2014 Nonnenberg is as clean as a whistle (and therefore obviously the product of acribic selection), but both the structure and the energy are lower than in a less problematic vintage, and the waxy notes on the nose indicate that this is ready to drink at a relatively youthful 7+ years of age. The expression of the angular Breuer style and the cool mountain terroir are impeccable however, with low alcohol (11.5% ABV), flavours of bitter lemon, orange zest and grapefruit, and a tight and appetising finish. Drink now and over the medium term - until 2030. On the second day the wine is in fine shape, a little more amenable than before but perfectly intact, harmonious and completely ready to drink. Delightful.
