Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • {screwcap, 14.5%} Deep, plush garnet, with some softening. Intense nose; liquorice, chocolate, blackberries. Palate has lots of overripe grape aspects; raisins, prunes, fading oak; a bit sweet, but not sugary. But it’s all superficial, there’s nothing really to feast on. Plenty of up front flavours if you don’t pay too much attention; medium/full impression on the palate initially, low furry dusty tannins, low acidity. Overripe grapes riding on alcohol a bit; not the worst of the style by any means but certainly on the same playing field. Finish is rather short, if you pay attention. Drink now.

  • {screwcap, 14.5%} Merlot dominated this vintage, all plum jam aromas and flavours and cuddly and somewhat overripe, with flabby acid and low muddy tannins and some overarching warmth. Never really been convinced by McLaren Vale Bdx blends from a varietal / style perspective. This is a big super-ripe style, becoming less fashionable as time goes by. Not convinced there’s point in cellaring this, though it’s not about to fall over either.
