  • Tasted blind in Kabinett Cup 2015. 12% alcohol. Bottled under a glass stopper.

Very pale, limpid green color. Somewhat closed nose with reticent yet attractively fragrant aromas of apples, a little bit of rubbery reduction, a hint of waxy character and a sweet touch of fruit marmalade candies. The wine is quite ripe and broad on the palate, yet nicely focused with rich but not overdone flavors of ripe apples, some steely minerality, a little bit of crisp lime-driven citrus fruits and a hint of perfumed floral character that feels almost borderline Gewürztraminer-ish with subtle undertones of roses. The wine is moderately high in acidity; balanced, but not racy and austere - somewhat atypical for a young Rheingau Riesling. The finish is crisp, steely and complex with quite long flavors of ripe apples, some apple peel bitterness, a little bit of exotic spice, a hint of saline minerality and a fragrant touch of apple blossom.

A very attractive and balanced Riesling with good balance of ripe fruit, almost bitter minerality and moderately high acidity. The 2015 Rieslings of Rheingau seem to be atypically ripe for the region, but the best ones manage to combine good ripeness with great balance - just like this wine. This was among my top 5 favorite wines in our tasting, but as we gave points only to our top three wines, this wine received no points in our Kabinett Cup of 32 Rieslings from 2015. Despite its lack of points, I think this was a great Kabinett: it is drinking well now and I imagine it will continue to develop for a handful of years. However, as I am unsure how wine age under a glass stopper, I can't comment if this is going to be a keeper or not.

  • Nice minerality and green apple on the nose. Minerality continues on the palate, also some honey melon and fresh apple. Good acidity. Overall a balanced and beautiful Kabinett wine. Works extremely well with delicate white fish.

  • Off the menu at Main Nizza in Frankfurt, Germany. Green gold in color. The nose has minerals, slight red apples. On the palate, this is pretty dry. Good acidity. Minerals and slight apples. Nice finish. Needs food and worked better with food. Perhaps some upside. No hurry.

  • Korrekter Wein, etwas schlank, kommt dennoch gut an.
