Quite deep, developed and concentrated caramel-brown color with a burning reddish-orange core. Rich, very developed and somewhat oxidative nose with intense aromas of syrupy molasses, roasted chestnuts and walnuts, some acacia honey, light smoky tones, a little bit of burnt sugar, a hint of nutmeg and a touch of lemon marmalade. The wine is medium-sweet to rather sweet on the palate with quite developed and remarkably intense flavors of acacia honey, burnt sugar bitterness, some sharp lemony notes of citrus fruits, light syrupy tones, a little bit of oxidative nuttiness, a hint of smoke and a touch of honeycomb. The acidity feel noticeably high, which lends wonderful intensity and sense of structure to the wine. The finish is sweet, sharp with lemony tones and very persistent with a complex, evolved aftertaste of honey, some caramel, a little bit of smoke, light oxidative notes of roasted nuts, a hint of tangy salinity and a touch of burnt sugar bitterness.

A quite rustic and moderately oxidative Tokaji that has evolved quite wonderfully into a beautifully complex, tertiary dessert wine. From my previous experiences with this wine, this has always been a rather oxidative in style compared to many modern examples of Tokaji, making it feel a bit unpolished, but now, with enough age, these oxidative notes suit the wine wonderfully, making it come across very harmonious and enormously delicious. Furthermore, this bottle lacked the somewhat metallic notes all previous bottles had exhibited. All in all, a wonderful little Tokaji and a bargain at 12,19€ for a half-liter bottle.

  • Concentrated, deep golden yellow color with moderately bronze hue. very developed and oxidative nose with unctuous, tertiary aromas of dried peach, rusted iron, honey, some roasted nuts, a little bit of savory oak spice and a hint of nutmeg. The wine is fresh, acid-driven and medium-bodied on the palate with sweet, focused flavors of nectarine, dried peach, oxidative nuttiness, some rusted iron, a little bit of honey, light botrytis spice, a hint of lemony citrus fruits and a touch of bruised apple. The lively acidity lends the wine great intensity while keeping the residual sweetness well at bay. The finish is long and somewhat angular with quite pronounced rusted iron flavors along with flavors of bruised apples, steely minerality, oxidative roasted nut notes, some spicy botrytis character and a hint of beeswax.

A wonderfully unapologetic, tough and oxidative Tokaji with wonderful freshness and focus. There's a note of rusted iron (that I've noticed earlier as well) that distracts a bit, keeping the wine from getting a higher score. Otherwise this rustic, spicy and somewhat unpolished style is very lovely. It lacks the vibrancy and elegance of the more modern Tokaji Aszús, but I don't mind. This is more like Tawny Port or sweet Madeira built like a Tokaji - and I love it for what it is. Great value at 13,99€ for a half-liter bottle.

Really beautiful golden color with copper brown undertones. Elegant, underplayed aromas of honeyed botrytis overwhelmed by charming aromas of maple syrup, nutmeg, complex dry oak, some bruised apple oxidation and a touch of rusted iron. The wine initially begins as really sweet, but the palate is overtaken by dry, spicy and faintly vanilla oak and slightly bitter oxidative spice. The RS close to 100 g/l does not punch through, thanks to the abundant, fresh and even borderline crisp acidity. Flavors of overripe, slightly bruised red apple and tart, ripe lemony citrus fruit roll around your tongue complimented with honeyed sweetness. The finish is a synthesis of all the characteristics of the wine: the maple syrup aroma makes a comeback, supported by bruised apple to apple jam flavors. The citrus fruit tartness and acidity keep the sweetness wonderfully at bay, giving some room for a touch of stony minerality. Lingering aromas of toffee oak, creamy spiciness and complex, nutty oxidation. The layered, complex aftertaste really calls you to taste the wine again and again.

Powerful, delicious stuff. This definitely isn't about elegance; this is about straightforward power and intensity. However, this is not to say that the wine is simple - it has loads of complexity, especially due to its oxidative character. An incredible combination of citric acidity, honeyed sweetness and oxidative, nutty complexity. An excellent buy at 13,99€ for a 0,5 bottle.

  • Deep and somewhat oxidized nose of apple purée, varnish, heather, nutmeg and copper.
Quite sweet and medium bodied on the palate with beautiful strong acidity. Appley fruit, dried citrus and almonds with leathery grip and nice minerally feel. Long.
Not the most complex of wines, but I do love the pure power and determination of these old school Tokajis. Yum!

  • Wine Club (Bowling Green, OH): This wine is a pipe bomb (tobacco, that is). Both on the nose and the palate. It's almost one-dimensional with it, but it's got some smokiness and a honeyed boytritis yumminess. Not super-sweet, and ok acidity.
