Young but accessible Toro wine (100 percent Tinta de Toro), the entry level wine of the ‘Teso La Monja’ estate. Aged for six months in used French oak barrels. Lively cherry red in color with violet reflections. Intense aromas of blackberry, cassis, cocoa, sweet spices and a hint of leather. The palate shows a medium to full bodied wine with ripe red and black fruit, an elegant texture and pleasant, well-integrated tannins. Nice harmonious finish. Drink it now and over the next 3-4 years. Good value for money.
Jonge maar toegankelijke Toro-wijn (100 percent Tinta de Toro), de instapwijn van het domein 'Teso La Monja'. Houtlagering: zes maanden in gebruikte Franse eiken vaten. Mooie, harmonieuze afdronk. Te drinken: nu en de komende 3-4 jaar. Goede prijs-kwaliteitsverhouding.

Bodega Teso La Monja is a brand within the Sierra Cantabria stable, a collection of wineries run by the Eguren family. The vines are pre-phylloxera, and it was only founded 10yrs ago. Their top wines are fabulously expensive, but this is the entry level model. A bevy of global reviews describe this in glowing terms, so you know it is well-marketed. I can't see any more technical details than 100% Tempranillo and 6mths French oak.
Bright purple red in the glass. This has an exhiberant nose of lifted purple fruits, cherry lollies, fresh bread and cherry cola. It opens light and fruit driven but closes with a solid lick of firm tannin which seems slightly at odds with the rest of the wine and begs the question: better in a few years or slightly disjointed?

Reductive initially, but opens to violets, tobacco and mixed fruits. Heavy scratchy tannin needs to resolve a bit.
