Merchant blind tasting. This 2012 was served as a pair with the 2008 next to it. Rich, ripe nose with forest floor, cassis, vanilla. Tasted like a Napa Cab Sav. The 2008 had an additional savory elements, for me the slightly better wine.

Corney & Barrow Tasting @ Tower Club: Palate of black fruits, liquorice, wet earth with a black coffee bitter finish. This is concentrated and powerful, albeit a little too heavy for some. The foundations are there and this should continue to evolve brilliantly.

Corney & Barrow Italian Wines Tasting (Pasta Brava): Appearance is clear, deep intensity almost opaque, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of vanilla, licorice, macerarted black plums, black cherries, stony minerality. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of ripe black cherries, black plums, blackcurrant, blackberries, licorice, stony minerality. Long finish. Very good quality. No doubt very obviously internationally styled. But let's give credit where credit is due. This is good. Big, powerful, muscular, and concentrated, but still maintaining a sense of balance. Should drink well with another 2-3 years of age and will last well into 2020-25. Blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot.
