  • Hard to believe, but I had purchased 20 of these about seven years ago and this was the last one. Not the best of the bottles, but not the worst either. The color was dark, the nose wonderful, but a bit overly sweet, masking much of the wine. I really liked it, but it is more dessert than "table" wine. Very Good. thedrunkencyclist.com

  • Color has certainly evolved into a full-blown golden. Also, I do not remember the others being this sweet. This was dessert wine category.

  • I'd held on to this for a while, since it was technically my wife's - I asked Bernard Sparr to inscribe a birthday message to her when I bought this at a tasting years ago. "Enjuy zees wiss yor hubby" (phonetic). Opened with good Chinese food - tofu clouds, egg foo young, peking duck roll.

Scary mold underneath the capsule and signs of seepage! Carefully removed the cork and poured, found the wine undamaged and I didn't go blind, at least not as of writing this tasting note. The color is a deep gold, with spice and tropical aromas that I might have guessed Gewurtz. Mouth begins with immediate recognition of full body, lychee fruit, spices and the last vestiges of acidity. A distinct minerality follows and persists, bordering on a chemistry lab flavor - not totally unpleasant but would be better without.

  • $21 from 12th and Chestnut St. PLCB store in Philadelphia, PA. Closeout sale.

Appearance: Medium + Intensity/ Deep old gold color

Aroma: Medium - to Light Intensity/ Apricot, Kiwi, Asian Pear, Honey, Bready Yeast

Palate: Off Dry Sweetness, Full Bodied, Medium Acid, Medium + Alcohol, Medium Flavor Intensity, Medium + Length/ Rye Bread, Caraway, Limestone, Asian Pear and Red Apple, light Tropical notes.

Intriguing palate. The rye and formost breadiness is not what I expected from the aroma. So much extract and body that it belies the dryness of the wine (almost suggesting Medium Dry sweetness). A little hot but not to the point of unpleasantness. A little strange but interesting and enjoyable. I'm going to approach this again in several hours and reevaluate.

Reevaluation after 2 hours: Earthier overall, on the nose and palate. A very good wine.

  • This really took some time to open up...but I have to think that this is still just starting to show it's potential...
