  • ≈2 hr decant into a cylindrical plastic pitcher which was then closed. Returned to the bottle, from which it was then poured after ≈2 1/2 hrs total time;

    From bottle having rec'd < "ideal" storage :( ; Private Preserve after Day 1; A blend of C.S., Merlot, Syrah, & Sangiovese; Also, per label, made by Gilles Nicault [of Long Shadows Vintners];

    N: FRAGRANTLY ripe berries with earth coming forward. (Also part of the mix are the blk olives which were predominant when 1st decanted.)

    P: MF, poss Med, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish, olive tinged frt met by an astringent pucker which slowly evolves into a LONG, balanced finish with a bitter/swt choc bent to the FIRMING, dusty tannins. While not a particularly good match for today's COSTCO MRE IT Sausage & Pasta in Garlic Wine Sauce, it DID seem to do better either by itself &/or with the night's 2 sides [1 Zucchini, the other a Brussel Sprouts saute from TJs (?)]. 14.8% ABV; My VG+/EXC-, the higher arguably for QPR &/or for those seeking a style with plenty of "oomph"/firepower. // Day 3: Definitely showing oxygenation, which, with its heft, for my palate has it showing its "warts" even > on Day 1. ∑: Drink during the next 18 mos or so with hearty, full-flavored fare. [Purchased @ COSTCO, 3/7/16, @ $16.99] 89 pts ea costcowineblog.com & WE (5/1/17), and 88 with Silver Medal, “Highly Rec,” & “Cellar Selection” from Bev Tasting Institute (2/14/17).

  • Opened and decanted for 2 hours. Definitely a new world style BDX blend from the nose. Vanilla, wet earth and some bramble. Full bodied and very smooth on the palate. Nothing spectacular but very satisfying and punching way above its weight, especially from a cost standpoint. Served with grilled NY Strip, roasted Brussels Sprouts and twice baked potatoes. Well done and glad I took the risk to grab some and cellar them. Great QPR!

  • Nice Cab/ Syrah/Merlot blend, for Costco by Giles Nicault, resident winemaker at Long Shadows in Walla Walla, WA . Nice with a steak tonight.

    ≈1 hr decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then closed; Private Preserve after Day 1

    N: Ripe plums, poss some spice; Notes of alch? (14.8% ABV declared)

    P: MF, poss Full, body; Rndish entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (with occasional hints of grn olives?) met by an astringent pucker which pretty much holds into & through the quite LONG, very, VERY slightly astringent which ULT shows a bitter/SWTNESS to the remaining astringency.
    // Day 2: I thought it degraded quite a bit, though the relatives didn't agree. ∑: A "big" wine for BIG entrées; Drink over the next 18, poss 30 mos, IF looking for such a style.

    Addendum: Also tasted on 11/20/19.

  • Difficult for me to write notes on this one. Every sip was different, wine continuing to evolve on day 2. At $17 that's worthwhile in itself. Dark and complex, the Syrah component most prominent. Went well with cheeses on day 1, ok with sirloin on day 2 but not what I would consider a food wine - a bit bold and being dynamic between sips throws off potential pairings. Smooth tannins, probably has a couple of years. Will pick up more to see how it ages over time.
