{screwcap} Well on the downslope now, this has a distinctly volatile aspect to the fading but nicely ripened fruit. Little oak left, no real tannin, trembling acidity. Feels like a lighter-bodied effort/vintage that was always a short-termer. No decant – just poured from minimal sediment.

Nose and palate show big, but faded, flavours of black fruit, sawdust, and wet leather. Strong acidity gives the palate structure and balance, but the tannin is a little too faded. Feels like it could have been great at one point, when the tannin was a little stronger. Improves with time in the glass: the aged flavours seem more interesting and the wines flaws are becoming easier to overlook. Wish I had more of this one.

Much easier to get through this bottle compared to earlier vintages. There's cassis, stewed dark fruits, a lick of spice. Chalky tannins. Still a bit too much acid noticeable on the finish, which compromises a nice balance of dark berries and spice. It's certainly OK, but there's better out there. Given how the 2005 and 2003 look today, I wouldn't keep this any longer - drink now.
