  • mouth - starts sleeks but quickly explodes to form a rather rich, ripe tropical, big bodied white, nevertheless with good acidity. There's definitely some nerve-y pineapple in this Volnay er i mean Meursault white. I think fans of cali chard and white burg could both get behind this.

  • One day1, I thought I may have had an off bottle because this was beyond mediocre. Not flawed (neither oxidized nor corked) but just very unimpressive. I love the producer, lover the importer, love Meursault and love 2014 but this wine was a ringer for none of them. It lacked aromatics, acidity, body. A head scratcher. Especially at $82. Notably, I did not have tak4's experience and I agree with his/her notes on most wines so I suspected that this was an off bottle. On day 2, the wine opened up into some much more interesting and refined albeit very restrained. There was some more depth and developing aromatics with a lovely light on its feet elegance. Very mineral driven Meursault. I am looking forward to seeing how my last bottle will be in a few years.
From the importer: This is a big, brawny wine that is sadly extremely limited in availability. The Bitouzets own 0.2 hectare and the vines were planted in 1971. Their parcel is in the best section of the lieu-dit, known as “Les Santenots-Blancs” which is on the border with Volnay.

  • Deep yellow gold. Bright. Medium viscosity. Clear.

Nose appears sound. Grapefruit and beeswax. Lychee. Butter and oak a level deeper. Wet pavement minerality. No reduction here.

No obvious flaws. Medium acid. Dry. Medium high alcohol. Creamy mouthfeel. Touch of oak, touch of wet wool. Super long finish.

This is just a beautiful wine. So elegant.

Next bottle of this should be consumed 2019.
