  • Quite ripe. This wine has lots of fruit still and a very plush texture. I think that I might have started drinking these a bit earlier to have a bit more edge to the wine. It's not tired by any means, just soft and easy.

  • Pop and poured. This is still in its infancy. Dark garnet with a slight brickish tinge on the edge. On the nose, aromas of black cherry, chocolate liquor, earthy mushroom and plum. On the palate, this shows its baby fat still in place. Tight and taut acidity dominates at first; easing up its grip with air time. Notes of strawberry, warm spices and black cherry shine through. A touch of toast and vanilla are evident towards the medium-long finish. Well done but will definitely improve with some years and/or plnty of breathing time.

(Jadot Louis Chambolle-Musigny les Feusselottes) Most 1999's drink great today, but if you want to drink this wine now, take a decanter! For 90 minutes the nose of this wine was only about wood-spice. Given time there is a superb soaring red nose. The palate seems also to lose a little graininess with aeration but retains a little astringency to the tannins. Excellent acidity and a finish that is long but currently one dimensional. Not a shy and retiring Chambolle - indeed quite muscular - but this should be a super bottle in the future.
