  • Amazingly young for such a wine with a few years on it. Very precise and detailed aromas of stone fruits and minerals. Overall, there is just such a clean and fresh element to it, almost like one I associate with talcum powder. Maybe the biggest nitpick is that the substantial oak treatment is a bit more obvious than one might like, but there is enough fruit to handle it. At a fraction of the cost of its Cote de Beaune neighbors, this is a wine well worth seeking out.

  • $44.99 retail, before discount. Following the 2004 Robert-Denogent Macon-Solutre Clos des Bertillonnes (see TN), the new oak on this Pouilly-Fuisse cuvee is immediately evident, but it seemed to fade a bit with time in the glass. Spicy oak, with layers of caramel and apple on the nose. In the mouth, well-balanced, with good acidity. Evident new oak, with elements of spice, caramel and appley fruit. Very nice, though I'm less taken with this cuvee than the two '04 Macons I've had from Robert-Denogent (see TNs). That said, this easily hangs with or surpasses most under $50 Cote de Beaune blancs, IMO.
