This Pinot noir is getting better and better. This is from the last year James McPhail was at the helm. Although I always liked his Russian River Pinots, the Toulouse vineyard wine from cooler Anderson Valley always stood out. I knew this wine needed time, and it does not disappoint. If you still have this in your cellar, hold on to it and enjoy when the moment is there. This will hold for a few more years to come. Tonight it showed lovely fresh and bright acidity of ripe strawberries on the nose mixed with blueberries, rose petals, honey, and nutmeg (?). The mouthfeel is round and suave, starting with summer berries, followed by mix of sweet/bright and friendly earthines flavors, honeysuckle, mint, citrus and a lingering taste that reminds me of late fall flowers. It went very well with a dinner of simple medium rare steak and salad of baby kale/pepita/blue cheese crumbles. It also paired well with the dark chocolate that followed for desert. A weekend dinner on a Monday!

Even better than it was last year. Sad that this is our last one from this vineyard by MacPhail.
