Pietros: This is a big inky wine that depends on oak for aromatics. Although oak is soft and integrated aromatically, in the mouth the acid tannin balance is difficult, maybe it will age out. It is a well made wine technically, mostly Malbec with the kitchen sink of other varieties, I can see why it wins at tastings but at the table after a few sips it is uncomfortable and does not work with food.

Brassfield tasting dinner. California meritage, hot, a bit simple and bitter, seemed unripe for what it was. Obviously too young, with no glass time, regardless, not much pleasure. YMMV.

This wine got 98 points at the California State tasting event. I give it a 95 as it is amazing, well-balanced, soft tannins and truly mouth-filling blend of Clearlake region.
