  • Sat, 09/29/18, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Sangiovese & Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5% ABV, S/S [NO oak]; 150,000 cases made

N: Fragrant cherries with notes of straws & undertones of earth

P: Med, poss LM, body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by a bit of puckerish astringency which pretty much resolves by the LONG, very, VERY slightly tangy finish with notes of bitterswt choc to the very, VERY fine tannins. For now with food, + should improve a bit over the next 6 mos or so, then drink nicely for 3 yrs more. My EXC- based upon the *awesome* QPR of this vendor's $6.95, which is $1 < anyone else listed on wine-searcher. 85 pts WS

  • Pnp. Light-medium ruby-garnet in colour. Nose of sweet red cherries; has a bit of earthiness to it. The palate's getting some strawberries and hints of earthy cassis with a touch of dark green herbs. Light-medium bodied with a short finish with light tannins. This is a decent quaffable bottle for a red pasta dish.

  • Sat, 01/06/18, $2 Tasting: Sangiovese & Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5% ABV, S/S [NO oak]; 150,000 cases made

N: Closed; Cherries, earth, poss some spice?

P: L, poss LM, body; NICE frt met by some puckerish acidity & very, VERY fine tannins which pretty much continue through the LONG, SOMEWHAT smoky/earthy finish with those very, VERY fine tannins SLOWLY fading so that the ULT sensation is one of swtness. Deserves/NEEDS into Fall '18, then drinking through '20. A potential QPR *steal* @ this vendor's (out of stock?) $6.95, although early Feb '19's wine-searcher still shows numerous U.S. sources from $9-$13. 85 pts WS

  • Sat, 12/9/17, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Sangiovese & Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5% ABV, S/S [NO oak]; 150,000 cases made

N: Clsd; earth slightly atop cherries?

P: Med body; Rndish entry with nice, almost swtish frt met by a very, VERY finely tannic, very, VERY slight pucker which morphs into a LONG, slightly spicy finish that is almost swtish yet with occasional notes of bitterness from those very, VERY fine tannins. EXCELLENT QPR with the potential for improvement through the Summer of '18, then drinking through the end of the decade. 85 pts WS [This vendor's $6.95 is VERY competitive in a tightly bunched market.]
