Look no further for a taste of Sicily; this is a pure expression of Nero d’Avola. Fermented and matured in stainless steel, this wine stays true to itself and its origins with fresh, ripe fruit and a wealth of savoury notes. Though the nose was perhaps a bit muted compared to the palate, both still consisted of bold flavours with plenty of conviction. Juicy raspberry, cherry, and blackberry mixed with mint, sage, and pepper. Earth, forest, and gravel came forth, followed by hints of vanilla and cedar. The medium-long finish carried both licorice and chocolate in a rich yet sharp manner, while a touch of dried fruit/prune made an appearance as the evening passed. On day 2 and 3 the pepper and savoury notes became more intense. The wine had a strong structure, adding to the spiciness of the overall experience. It was a bottle that held no secrets, nor was it particularly complex; rather it was made to scream Sicilia from the top of Mt. Etna!
