Etihad Business CLass & Lounges; 11/20/2017-11/24/2017 (Sydney, Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt): {screwcap, 14.5%} Inky iodine character. Dark currants. Soft oak. Some development. Tart acid, but ripe fruit, although perhaps lacking a little in concentration; it’s a bit hollow somehow. Mild oak doesn’t dominate – it’s the current which takes the stage, the merlot relegated to, well, I’m not sure what. This gives it a fairly assertive character, austere yet alcoholic, which isn’t the finest combination I must say. Medium/fukl-bodied, but in a patchy way. About medium length finish, but ready to drink.

Etihad Business CLass & Lounges; 9/24/2017-9/29/2017 (Sydney, Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt): {screwcap, 14.5%} Deep garnet, with a tiny garnet/orange at the rim. All cabernet fruit nose of blackcurrant and dark chocolate. Low/medium but balanced dusty tannins, with medium acid; this is vivid and lively, with a juicy black character to the palate which mirrors the nose. There’s a bit of a mid-palate hole which the plummy merlot can’t quite fill, but overall this is OK, and might reward another 2-3 years cellaring. Dry finish, medium length and solidly medium-bodied in weight.

Deep purple color, nose of plum and cherry. Lots of fruit, with mild acidity. A complete surprise at this price point.

Very good impression of a bdx blend. A little graphite, nice red fruit, good length. Quite impressed

Nice blend, soft and subtle as is the custom of the Great Southern.
