Vigorous and vibrant, there were flavours of cassis and cedar supported by firm tannins which softened to a sweet mocha. Polished and fresh, I loved the balance structure and length, although I did wonder whether or not this had been acidified at some stage. CHP 90 pts

One of Coonawarra's royalty, the 1993 is a 65/35 Cabernet/Merlot blend, hailing from a cooler and slightly wetter vintage. The nose is subdued: blackberry, blackcurrant and mint. The palate has more flavour, with dark fruits, leather, dusty earth, more mint. The tannins are super fine. This is more a medium bodied Bordeaux style than full bodied Aussie cab. The wine itself, whilst still carrying on is starting to fade, though still quite enjoyable

Typical old, dusty Cabernet nose, with oregano, eucalyptus, and burnt twigs over red cherry syrup. Decent structure: there's strong, rough acidity, and although the tannin isn't upfront, it creates a smooth, tight finish. Palate of red cherry and blackcurrant juice, with hints of ground anise and pepper. Understandably, it's nowhere near as good as the 1986 (a much better vintage), but still worthwhile.

Very Bordeaux in style, no heavy fruit like a lot of Australian wines. Leather, mineral, lead pencil and currant on the aroma, Cherry, currant, fig and pepper to taste. Long finish, fine tannins.
