Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 90 points

  • Glass cork. Deep garnet, bit cloudy. Lots of phenolics, barnyard, blood, steel and herbal notes, cherries come later. On the palate very vibrant and concentrated with prevailing acidity, mineral core, unripe cherries, spice, some chocolate. Decanted 1½ hours in wide decanter, softened just a bit. Seems it needs more cellaring, but this is the style. Not my cup of tea, though adepts of “natural” wine should be happy.

  • Barnyard, cherries, Mon Chéri chocolate filling on the nose. Medium + acidity, drying tannins, cherries, Mon Chéri, licorice. Quite concentrated, which is not my preferred style, but it is in no way unbalanced, and has a good freshness and acidity too it. A very good wine indeed!

  • Not much fruit, very mineral, lots of herbs and spices on the nose. Powerful and grippy on the palate, lots of acidity, very good length. Needs time. 91-92+

  • Very reduced and stinky on the nose. The wine seems to be virtually impervious to oxidation as there is no noticeable degradation over three days in the open bottle, but unfortunately the sulphuric compounds are almost as stubborn as the wine itself. Other than that, this is a lovely, pure and fresh, engaging, medium-bodied and very digestible (12% ABV) Blaufränkisch with bright acidity, gentle phenolics, sour cherry fruit, a vibrant mineral core, and good length. Should score 88 or even 89 points, but the reduction is too strong to disregard. Flawed.
