  • Armomas of red and purple fruit, with pine and white floral notes flitting in the background. I haven't had this wine in several years and it seems to have morphed into a somewhat leaner and more savory wine than I recall from its youth. Tannins are light and the acidity provides a nice lift.

While the fruit is unmistakably Californian, the scale is more old world, and as such, complements a meal rather than competes with it. 13.1%abv.

  • Pleasant mixed red/black cherries & raspberries. A hint of earth. Light integrating acid/tannins. Drinking well now & should continue to do so through its 10th birthday. Shows its climate well.

  • P&p; drinking well right away but at its most expressive with 90+ minutes of air in the bottle. Pungent, savory (typical olive and slight meatiness), with dashes of herbs/scrub, mignonette and smoke. Ripe but cool dark-reddish fruit, fresh, nice. Saline. Good acidity; well balanced. Delicious. Good stuff!

  • Taste of Humboldt - Briceland Wines (My Place - Washington, DC): Smoky aromas with herbs and pepper and dark plums. Fresh on the palate, moderate tannic backbone, the wine is packed with black cherries, tart plums. I get notes of earth, pepper, sage. This is a saucy but tart Syrah.

  • Garnet/purple color with a nose of sweet red and purple fruit, like confectioner's sugar had been poured over ripe berries, with some leather and forest floor in the background.

Smooth with less tannic structure than the Ishi Pishi Syrah of the same year and perhaps a touch more acid. Juicy red and purple fruits, forest floor and a squeeze of lemon on the finish, which provides a nice bit of brightness. The sweetness of the nose does not translate to the palate, there's a nice savoriness here. Finishes medium. More immediately approachable than the 2014 Ishi Pish Ranch.

    13.1% abv, 123 cases made.
