This extracted and boozy Cabernet pushes Crane to another level of ripeness - and a little nauseatingly so. It's something of a Peter Pan situation, similar to a 20+ year old still living in the basement, playing video games, and working part time (or, in vinous terms: a wine 7+ years after harvest that shows boisterous fruit, offers little structure (i.e., tannin and acidity), and lacks much ambition (i.e., hello, nuance, is that me you're looking for?). I'm not sure if this wine will every grow up, but there's plenty of sugar to go around in the meantime.
Dark purple in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas of blueberry, cocoa powder, and menthol. The flavors resemble Halloween candy, with notes of chocolate-covered cherry, Hershey bar, and fruit cake, along with some peppercorn and cocoa powder (if I try hard enough). The finish is sweet and saccharine, with little change over four hours of air. 14.9% alcohol. My only advice is to wait another 2-3 years, but I'm concerned that this wine seems too comfortable living in the basement: it might be amusing, but it's not serious.
