The Semicentennial Birthday "Season"; 9/16/2012-9/18/2012 (San Francisco and the Napa Valley): This medium garnet wine shows an intense and complex nose, with aromas of Bing cherries, pomegranate, pipe tobacco and cardamom. Medium-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, light residual tannins, well-integrated alcohol and red fruit flavors. The middle palate is solid and the smooth finish is long. It is amazing how youthful this 23-year-old wine is! It held its own when served alongside the '62 Maison Leroy La Romanée, but did not have quite the complexity of its older cousin. Assuming well-cellared, enjoy this wine over the next 8-10 years. Drink now-12/22.

Dark garnet in color, initially nose showed a bit of funk but blew off after half an hour. Very well fruited and the nose is still very floral, palate initially a tad light but gained weight in glass, very well balanced and drinking very well now. A well made 89 Leroy

A decent drink that showed well, if not memorably. I had higher hopes for this bottle, as I've had good luck with 89 Leroy.
