  • Paid $9 at Ralphs. That says it all. Monday night with grilled salmon. A bit thin and astringent for me. OK for $9. Think I will bump up and spend $14-18--- woo-woo big splurge.

  • Cherry-red in color, this wine shows the basic elements of a Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot, where the grapes are purportedly from, but the flavors are something else — hot, alcoholic (14.9%), astringent and somewhat medicinal. I have tasted both a Chardonnay and this Pinot from this producer, and both wines have suffered from poor winemaking choices, a rarity in this day and age. Too bad, as these wines come from one of the few old-line, family-owned wineries in California.
