  An introduction to Domaine Laurent Boussey (Chez Kimelman): Well balanced and lively with pure fruit. Showing less creaminess than the Bourgogne but more refined and seamless. The old vine depth is palpable. Nice wine.

I was aware that a wine made from older vines gives more depth etc. but was not convinces of why in many cases they fetch 1er Cru prices? When a vine becomes older it produces less grapes but more intense grapes, resulting in a wine of greater depth and complexity but while producing less of a yield per acre it results in a more costly wine to produce but still, 1er Cru prices? On this trip I realized why and this wine is a perfect example. At the winery we tasted 2 wines from the same vintage and vineyard in Meursault named "Meurgers" and there was a difference.. The wine made from the younger vines was very good with minerals and stone fruit flavors etc., but this Vieilles Vignes made from 50 year old vines was fuller, more layered and drinks more like a 1er Cru, but like a 1er Cru it needs a couple of years in the bottle to show its full beauty.
