  • Opened two bottles. The first was clearly oxidized from the outset, though not totally gone, with the second presenting much fresher characteristics upon opening. The first blew off some funk after a bit, but both fell apart after a couple of hours. We decanted both so the color could more easily be examined (the two were very, very close in color with the first just a bare shade darker) though this certainly contributed to the short life after opening. Still enjoyable to try, but this isn't one to hold. I would have loved to try this wine five years ago.

  • Looking for a good time to open this one, and today was it! Cork came out in 3 pieces but there was zero bleed anywhere. Wine poured a medium golden color into the glass. Aged nose with some butter, herb, mushroom. This wine entered rather soft with some burned butter and mushroom primarily, partial malolactic. Definitely partially oxidized, but that helped to express another side of the wine. Had a nice acidity in the middle, a little lemon still showing, a hint of oregano or some kind of earthy cooking spice. The finish was a little acidic, devoid of oak, not much pepper, acid rather attenuated, and expressing well STILL at 18 years of age. Not much citrus here, and can definitely tell that this one was more of the lemony cool climate chard in its heyday. It went remarkably well with a tomato basil dressing and sliced tomato, and with the artichoke and mushroom that was cooked with veal in a beautifully done cream sauce. What a lunch, and a great wine to boot!
