This is a wine that is pretty easy to drink, but is missing something.
International in style, this is a riff on a “super Tuscan” but it lacks the sense of place that makes the best Tuscan wines. Dark fruit with a rich silky mouthfeel, it is very pleasant to drink but is never really more than that. Where Saggi is a distinctive Washington version of Sangiovese, which works in its own right, this wine is more of a Washington wine with some Sangiovese in it. Pleasant, but ultimately not very memorable.

At first, this wine was disjointed. From the blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, maybe that’s expected. It seemed both very sweet, and very oaky. Not much going on for the midpalate. It wasn’t pleasant to drink.
After being open for a few days, some of the sweetness became tartness. And some tannins showed up, while the oak decreased. It began to taste like a nice Chianti, with acid and weight.
This score is a balance of what I would score it when I opened the bottle, and when it was at its best.
