Year end dinner at Jade Palace. Final white in a flight of 4. Medium gold, this was a really powerful wine, probably because of a combination of maker, plot and vintage. Rich, ripe, dense on the nose with vanilla, wood, hazelnuts, mango cream, pineapple and manuka honey. The palate was similar in terms of sheer intensity and power, but with a hint of burnt caramel and sulphur with extended time. This is definitely a wine to age, and at this moment, unless you like the rich California Chardonnays with lots of oak and vanilla, best to rest your bottles and I'm pretty sure this will take on more elegance and balance with a further 15-20 years.

Initially a bit closed on the nose with toasted nuts, citrus and wet stone along with a hint of sulphur. This continued to open, but never really blossomed. The palate however was outstanding. Very fresh, broad and rich in the mouth. Mineral and peach and citrus. Fat but not sloppy. Long precise finish.

DRC Tasting Group (Wild Ginger, Seattle, WA): Tasted blind. Some chalk on the nose. Medium weight with a nice backbone of acidity framed by mineral and tart apple. Soft tannins on the medium length finish. A bit one-dimensional in the mid-palate.

Like most Boillot of this era (for me), this was fine but relatively unenjoyable.

Another fine bottle. This was more open on the nose with a more waxy, honeyed note on the palate.
