Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Opened for Mother's Day dinner. In a really good spot now, although the oak influence seemed rather strong and dominant even after the reductive notes dissipated (a little bit, not a lot like in PYCM white burgundies). This is not your typical Pouilly Fuisse, and given that it is Olivier Merlin, it is in line with how bottlings are for Chateau Des Quarts Clos Des Quarts. Good acidity, floral, and nuanced lemon notes with quite a bit of that Puligny Montrachet style toasted oak/vanilla/pastry cream which lasted quite a while. Over time in the glass this would eventually become a bit less complex, but for the price point and value it offers, it is quite solid. I've never tasted recent vintages so can only imagine what those were like. The acidity held up nicely to a rather decadent and fatty Cantonese style roast duck at a seafood dinner, and oddly that was an even better pairing with the wine, than with the baked/smoked Chilean sea bass.
