I have to admit I would be pushed to get this as a Burgundy in a blind tasting based on the nose at the first sniff - big and ripe but after a few minutes this eases out into something more meaty and feral that starts to reveal the more animalistic elements of this region. Not a gentle wine and not a mature wine - although it does have the indications of starting to dip into middle age. Rich plums, sous-bois, morello cherries - quite rich and deep. It is touching on the verge of being ripe and overdone, but just about brings it back to being Burgundy. Good, but ripe.

A very herbal and rustic nose that I have to say didn't really appeal to me with tomato leaf, basil, broccoli and tobacco. The palate is better than the nose and is loaded with white pepper and savory spice. The tannins are looking for attention, but are of good quality. Was looking a bit awkward overall.

Wine Education Service - Burgundy Course - Côte de Nuits.: Initially the nose was quite restrained, but patience yielded the complexities, meaty, vegetal, liquorice, forest earth, tea - constantly changing. Fruity attack, good balance, classy, needs food, needs time.
