  • compared to 2013, three days ago. More approachable, plenty of berry fruit, bordering on sweet, nice. I'm. noticing 2013's in general being tight, compared to 2014's, need more time.

  • Solid Cabernet, black currant and cherry, elegant fine tannins, cinnamon and an integrated oak long finish. Really hit its stride after an hour decant, and paired well with a prime filet with Chicago steak seasoning.

  • Slightly tough for me to rate, kind of a wine with many wonderful qualities and one larger drawback (just pretty tight and slightly closed at this stage.) Also, got it on sale for $50 (usually $70), and was really happy with the sale price- not as amazing QPR up there. In the end, it really won me over, and it can definitely age for quite some time, so I'll give it a bonus there too.

Beautiful nose- although it's unfortunately quite tight at this stage, requiring a lot of huffing. Thankfully the scents go really deep- perfectly ripe blackcurrant and plum, very dark without being jammy whatsoever, with accents of toast, cinnamon, fig, and gentle tobacco. Thankfully, not really any green, even with a fairly "fresh" and restrained-smelling Napa. Not as much of that nice buttery tone I get on others, but it's almost there. The oak is very well expressed.

Palate was what really solidified this as quality, for me. Much clearer fruit, jubilant and expressive black and red currant, black cherry, yet again mostly very fresh, even with the ripe/sweet tones. Tannins are very dusty, but also pretty fine-grained, and the acidity is at a respectable medium at least, so its definitely enjoyable to drink now, with plenty of fruit and energy there to tame the structure.

Decanting helped the fruit out a little bit, but by the last glass the fruit began to recede behind the tannins- might keep it as a pop and pour for now, or short term decant. Not sure I would buy again for usual price, but I gotta say it was really damn good and very well made, even if it isn't super expressive at the stage. I feel its possible to get Napa Cab of similar quality for a TOUCH cheaper, but it's also nice to support a smaller producer. Damn good for the sale price too, if it was normally a $50 wine I'd def give an extra point.
