Medium golden yellow. Dense texture almost tannic. Mouth coating. Creamy, buttery but not over the top. Nice acidity, at least medium. Fruit is somewhat subdued with hints of lemon and white stone fruit but just hints. Lots of minerals throughout. Decent but not super long finish. I had very high hopes for this but I was slightly disappointed in it. I gave it an hour+ in the decanter and tasted it over another 2 hours.

Pop and pour. In the glass, medium-pale almost-clear gold. On the nose, equal parts lemon and honeysuckle. On the palate, citrus fruits lead the way, followed by peach, smoke, and a faint hint of clove, with a relatively smooth, low-acidity finish.

This powerful and creamy wine has settled down in the year and a half since I tasted it last (6/18 - 92 points), though I'm not sure it will unfold in time to be truly special. The tartness I tasted is gone now, substituted with pleasant aromas of pear, nectarine, and saline, along with lively flavors of lemon meringue, gooseberry, and almond. The finish, though, is still briny, sour, and a touch bitter, which is surprising at the four-year mark. 14.5% alcohol. Consistent across several hours.
I've been trying to figure out Lato's wines for several years now, and I'm not sure I've succeeded. It always seems like the best might be around the corner - just not here yet - and I'm starting to wonder when, if it all, the drinking window opens. Last summer, this wine was tightly wound; now, it has unfolded, but it still has a bitter, sour grapefruit after-taste. This may be a feature or a bug, or maybe it just needs more time, but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the wait.

Ornellaia Dinner (Stefani Prime - Lincolnwood IL): Lots of stone fruit well spiced with good richness. Fun in a very ripe manner, slightly missing brightness.

I am big fan of Paul late but not this one. Fruit is great, but this wine is missing balance it has zero acid.
