Beautifully aged Modern Classic.bacon fat, smoke and black pepper prevail. Black fruit and banana skin still present, lurkin' in the background, like a testimony of winemaking in the late nineties. Not at all heavy or obtrusive, great balance. Pure pleasure. Drank the bottle over 5 days... Was holding up great.
Perfect to be consumed now. The nose was still alive and kicking with loads of dark sweet berries, oak, coffee, cocoa, spice, vanilla and slight dried fruit lurking in the corners. Though seemingly in the style of being big and fruity, it was also at the same time rounded and balanced with slightly pronounced fruits and sweetness but at a very moderate acceptable un-fruit bomb-ish level. The palate was extremely smooth and velvety with slightly subdued levels of intensity in the earthy fruit compared to the nose. The tannins had just about integrated with the fruit and acid to create a very silky mouthfeel with no resistance whatsoever. The finish followed down the sides of the mouth with flavours of burnt caramel sauce covered berries which very slowly faded away. One of the most memorable Australian Shirazes i have ever tasted. If I could find anything wrong, it would be that the wine might have been slightly better if tasted a year before as the fruit on the palate seem to be a mite unfocused and bracing for the drop over the curve. But that really depends on bottle variation and your luck. So drink up and enjoy.
