Red currants and floral notes on the nose intermixed with some tar and toast. Crispy yet slightly subdued red currant fruits attack the front palate. The mid palate is filled with creamy vanilla, chocolate, sweet melted tannins with gentle spices in the background. Very well balanced wine and finishes with slight heat. Good quality per price ratio. Impressive. Drink now.
Beautiful and mature bouquet with dark forest fruits, chocolate, sweet spices and a pleasant touch of barnyard. On the palate the same impressions, mild acidity and tannin. Beautiful and mature wine. No real hurry.
Deep red color. Aromas of blueberries, mocha, licorice and wood spices. Ripe, beautifully structured, complex fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and a long, sweet finish. Very integrated, suave and persistent on the palate. This bottle has been in my cellar for over 15 years and was still very fresh and showing no signs of fatigue. Though having lost the baby fat of its youth, this beautifully balanced and elegant wine was still richly extracted and quietly powerful. This outstanding 17 year old Aussie Shiraz was the WOTN and delicious with the compelling food at Laurel Restaurant.
Lacks the awesomeness of previous bottles. Getting a little too much secondary character and lacks the fruit of others. Graphite, pepper, spices and red fruits. While not a powerful finish it still lingers for 25 seconds. Recommend drinking these up.
I think the flavor profile was very much as it was when I had this wine 15 years ago. While it might have mellowed a bit, this is far from a shrinking violet it still drinks quite young and quite Shiraz. Given its current plateau, I don't see it changing in the short or mid term. Drink now unless you have the courage to hold for a long time to see if anything changes.
